Is it ok to be friends with a teacher?

She taught me last year, but now I'm in a different school. We are both female, I am 15 years old, she is almost 60 years old. I phone her occasionally and she helped me get through a hard time in my life. Is this considered weird or ok? It's not like we see eachother outside of school.

It is okay, teachers often like it when students keep in touch.

I am close to a teacher who used to teach me. He is 34 now and when I was at school he was a great help and a fantastic teacher.

Since I am almost in the teaching world myself, I know I can rely on him in both a friendly way and a professional way, he is someone I can look up to for advice + help.

Is it ok to be friends with a teacher?  In a word, yes.

When I taught, some of the greatest rewards were the students who stayed in touch after they left school.  I know that one teacher certainly changed my life and we corresponded and visited until she passed away.

It sounds like you have already made friends.  Good friends are rare.  Treasure this one and don't let your friendship slip away.

As for being weird, it isn't.  There may be some kids who just don't understand what friends really are, but they are less important than a good friend.  Mostly their regard is based on superficiality.  

I hope that your friendship lasts many years.

Sounds like you have a good relationship.  My rule is that I can be a friend with a student, but I have to be their teacher FIRST.

It's alright, it'd be a little weirder if you were a 15 year old man and it was a 60 year old lady, vice versa.

I think you're fine.. but your friends might think odd things about you if you release that. Just keep it to yourself and you should be fine!

I don't think this is weird at all. It is nice to have someone that you trust who is also able to help you. An adult who has more life experience may be able to help you through tough times. Just be sure to stay friendly with kids your own age... many of them will have good insight to offer as well!

I think it's nice you ring her.....as long as you are both fine then I think it's sweet....as an older woman she may enjoy the friendship as a breath of fresh air....it's not weird...I think it's sweet

I was raised by my nana and I know the value of relationships with older woman, they appreciate it...so go hard...

I am a teacher and  my students stay in touch with me through bebo...hahahaha...it's cool...I don't think it's weird.....
