Is it ok to clean Transition lenses with rubbing alcohol?

I just got new glasses with Transition lenses. Will cleaning the lenses when they are dirty or dusty with rubbing alcohol affect the lenses' ability to change color? I had regular lenses before and I have always cleaned them with rubbing alcohol so I'm not sure if it's ok to clean Transition lenses with rubbing alcohol since they are different.

No, it won't hurt them at all. We use rubbing alcohol on them in the lab. But, the best way to clean any lense is with either lense cleaner specific for eyeglass lenses, or with just warm soapy water. I use Dawn Dish detergetn and water on mine several times a day. Rubbing alcohol is ok, but the best thing about cleaning them wet is to rinse off the particles that can scratch them, any oil or grease will come off with the soap. Rubbing alcohol is not bad, but it does not rinse them well enough and it can "stain" if left to dry on the lense. It won't hurt the photo sensitive layer in the lens at all as that inside of  the lense, not on top of it. I hope I helped some.

Yes, that is no problem.

The anti scratch coating is much tougher than rubbing alcohol.

It won't affect the color for sure.

Most lens cleaners all have alcohol in them anyway.

It is always best to rinse them off under running warm water first though , so you don't grind anything into the lens.

Don't use anything besides the eyeglass cleaner that is sold to specifically clean glasses. If your glasses have coatings on them it can damage them overtime. Also don't use papertowels or tissues on them, the fibers will cause scratches.

You might wanna do some research on that because certain chemicals can react and eat at and deteriate things.  For an example I sell appliances, if you cook with sugar be extremely careful with it on a radiant top (smooth top) range because there is a chemical in the sugar that eats the tops and makes grooves and such.  So look into...
