A nice public place such as a fish and chips place on a pier sounds fine but make sure you have your cellphone with you and you let someone know where you are going to be.  An even better idea is to bring a friend or have a friend close by just in case.

Yes, more and more people are meeting people they have met online. Meet in a public place. Make sure someone knows where you are and make an arrangement to call them when you meet the person. Ask for their home telephone number/surname...if they are genuine then they shouldn't mind giving you that information. Never get into their car. Be safe and have fun.
