  1. you would want to make sure that the body was properly hydrated in the hours before you ran.  so you would only want to consume minimal water directly before any form of distance running.

  3. I drink lucozade sport (or sometimes water) about 2-4 times a rowing session ( a couple of hours) and I have no problems.

You don't want to consume alot of water before you jog, you want to be already hydrated by the time you start jogging and if you jog regularly that means staying well hydrated pretty much all the time.  We had to do the same in Army Basic Training.  If you jog in the mornings the best time to hydrate is mid afternoon to early evening the day prior to your jog.  This is the best time because you can take in alot of fluids and not have to worry about it interfering with your sleep.  You drink any later than that and you might be up most of the night.
