my hubby actually likes to give our bird random things (well i do sometimes) like crackers or cheerios ect. but tonight he gave him a small bite of his pork tenderloin and my bird LOVED it but im worried that its not good for him. its not like he gave him a whole bowl of this...just a small bite but i still dont want to give him anything to harm him. i know he cannot have chocolate or alvacados for sure. i give him vegys like my bird book said and also fruits but he ate the pork like it was going out of style lol. i know my cookin is good buy geez LOL j/k j/k. so i was just wondering if this is ok?

also cooked noodles (plain)

or chicken??

these are other things my hubby has given him bites of in the past and i cant find any info on it

thanks!

  1. Yes bits of chicken and pork are more than fine on a semi regular basis here is a link that gives a list of healthy quality food in every category including proteins! I'm coming to your house for dinner, along with my birds so they can get spoiled on your cooking! Actually I do cook bird recipes for my birds on a regular basis and freeze it out into daily serving portions.

  2. Small amounts of cooked, boneless & skinless chicken or pork - with the fat trimmed off are a good source of protein. Scrambled eggs (shell and all!), egg noodles, if not cooked in salt water are okay too.  Whole grain bread or crackers, cooked  wild or brown rice are good, beans and legumes are good. Try corn on the cob (cooked or raw), cooked yams, lots of greens, red, green or yellow peppers, high fiber & low fat cereals, and small amounts of almonds and walnuts. And of course, no onions, chocolate, soft drinks, avocado or foods high in sugar or salt.

  3. Just go easy on the meats and watch the cheese, sodium and sugar.  Birds don't have the enzymes needed to break down the cheese.

As for diet in general, all things in moderation, keep with the "safe list", and whatever is whole and healthy for you is also healthy for him.

The more variety the better to ensure balanced nutrition.

  4. Don't give the bird pork, or meat of any kind. I have a Meyers which is a cousin to the Senegal Parrot and I will not give him meat of any kind! Fruits, Veggies, and cereal are fine! !
