  1. Yes

  2. Think of the PS3 like a computer. How do you turn your computer off. Do you just pull the plug out the wall? NO, why because it will corrupt the data that is not saved.  Flipping the switch on the back of the PS3 is the same as unplugging it in form the wall.

  3. I wouldn't recommend this. Flipping the switch while it's green will corrupt any saved data on your PS3 console if you continuously do it, because you're putting too much stress on your PS3.

The best way to turn off your PS3 would be to using the PS3 controller. On the XMB, go to the "turn off system" icon, then wait a few seconds till the PS3 console light turns red, then turn off the PS3 console using the flip switch on the black, THEN turn off the power which is connected to your PS3 on the wall.

  4. No, I actually broke my PS3 doing this - it's like shutting down a computer when you want to switch it off - if you don't turn it off safely it would corrupt your data.

I had to learn this the hard way - so please take care :)

P.S. I got a replacement Ps3 shortly afterwards, so it wasn't all bad news for me lol :D
