I'm an amateur tattoo artist and a friend of mine wants a simple cover up tattoo on her leg, but she is pregnant. she has been asking for months and i tell her not while she is pregnant because her body will react to the pain and the baby can sense it and go into shock, possibly causing a miscarriage. is this true, or am i being paranoid? any good links on the subject will help. thank you

  1. I wouldn't try it. I'd wait til the baby is born. You don't want to risk infection or anything.

  2. Most reputable shops don't recomend it.  Sure some chicks have gotten ink before while pregnant,  but so what?  Everyone is different and each pregnancy is unique so nothing is completely certain.  But nothing is worth risking the safety of an unborn baby.  Why take a chance?

Keep your friend waiting, and assure her that it will be worth the wait.

  3. Don't do it.

    Its actually illegal.

In all paper work you sign to even receive a tattoo in a shop, you have to sign saying you are NOT pregnant.

  4. do not get tattoos while pregnant! not so much the pain, but her body will reject it making the colors bleed, and she will end up with a nasty looking tat

  5. It is true.

    You're not being paranoid.

It's not safe to get a tattoo when you're pregnant.

  6. i personally got two done while i was pregnant...no harm done. she should know if her body can handle it or not. the only thing that would hurt the baby is if she was stressing out about it, which i doubt she will. i think you are being paranoid but if you arent comfortable doing it then dont.

  7. You care about your friend, that's obvioius, so it scares you.  I don't see how it would cause a problem.  As long as your stuff is clean there shouldn't be a problem.  The ink stays where it is and wouldn't affect the baby that I can see.

  8. The baby will not react to the tat, I wouldn't do it unless she knows the salon very well and it is extremely clean, the only thing I would worry about would be possible blood poisoning., to the mother. But that can happen if she cuts her self,

  9. Here's a quote from Karen Hudson:

"I want to get a tattoo, but I am currently pregnant. Can I still get the tattoo?

For the safety of yourself and your unborn child, you should not get a tattoo when you're pregnant. Most tattoo shops won't do it, anyway, for safety reasons. Everything you take into your body can affect the baby - why risk it? Getting a tattoo can also lower your immunity to other illnesses while your body heals the tattoo, making you and your child susceptible. In a worst case scenario, if the tattoo became infected, you could pass that infection along to the baby. It's just not worth the risk, and this likewise applies to piercings."

That is a very good answer, please take it to heart.

  10. It's true and the skin feels extra sensitive, also pregnant women dont think logically - better to wait until the baby is born.
