  1. Ugh, no thats not okay.

Dog food has special things in it that makes it easier for dogs to be able to digest it.

Hamsters digestive system is very different than a dogs therefore making Hamsters unable to digest the same things dogs can.

Most people like to feed their dogs "people" food because most dogs can disgest it.

If you try feeding "people" food to your hamster (other than certian fruits and veggies) then you'll end up killing your hamster.

Stick with hamster food for your hamster, and dog food for your dog.

  2. No you should feed it normal hammie food or just fruits and veggies. I bet after that video the hamster died D:

  3. ya but they prefer dog treats

  4. You can give them regular dog biscuits for small dogs as long as they don't have garlic in them.  It's really good for their teethe.

  5. It can be.

Hamsters will eat ANYTHING reguardless if it is good for them or not.

Give them a doughnut, they will eat it. But is it safe? No.

Dog food is generally NOT safe for hamsters. It has high levels of protein and fat since it is made to be eaten by a bigger animal, and can cause the runs, which is easily fatal in hamsters.

Just feed some fruits and veg as a treat. Dog food? Not worth the risk.

  6. Nope. Just feed it regular hamster food.

As a treat, I used to feed mine a few Cheerios (not the sweetened kind). She loved 'em!

  7. They are omnivores so can have the occational dog biscuit but that is it.  Definately not dog food on a regular basis.

  8. As an occasional treat? Yup, it's fine. As the staple diet? No. You want to feed a high quality hamster food like Oxbow's Healthy Handfuls as well as daily fresh veggies and fruits once or twice a week (fruits are higher in sugar.)

  9. No, that is not proper, if you want to feed kibbles to your hamster, I suggest cat food with no hairball solution, etc.

  10. Dog food is fine, but I wouldn't give them anything unless it seems reasonable. They actually really like dog biscuits, and they are good for them because the meat one are protien and they keep them chewing which keeps their teeth in good condition.

  11. ask a vet if it is ok first befor you do anything...good luck x x x

  12. I wouldn't feed it a steady diet of dog food.  They do like it, though.  I used to have a hamster that would sneak out of her cage (still haven't figured out how she did that) and would go get dry dog food out of the dog's dish and bring it back to her cage and sit and wait for me to get up to put her back in her cage.

I have fed my current hamsters dog food mixed in with their regular seeds.  That way they'd have extra protein in their diet.  I don't see anything wrong with feeding dog food to them occasionally.

They will eat some meats, so people telling you that protein isn't safe for hamsters are wrong.  They will eat tuna (but will stink like fish afterward, my hamsters didn't like tuna), chicken (boiled), eggs (hard-boiled or scrambled, no salt or pepper), and hamburger (drain grease and wash, no seasoning).

    Good luck.
