  1. Not sure about sleep mode, but it will come up with issues later on.

I left my HP laptop on 24/7 and the connection to the monitor and the power supply got fried, but they fixed it for free. Also, it might slow down your computer after a while if you put it on sleep 24/7 and never restart.

  2. That's fine.

That's what the sleep setting is for  :-)

  3. I leave mine on 24/7 lol.

  4. I think so, i do it 24/7 too!

  5. Eh, you should be fine. I leave mine on all the time, but when I bought it they told me not to.

  6. Technically, it isn't good to leave any kind of computer on 24/7. It makes it a lot slower, too.

  7. Unless it is completely off, it is consuming power which is mostly created by burning fossil fuels etc. etc.

If you're asking "is it good for the laptop", very few things will "wear" faster in sleep mode than off, but since there is still power to various places on the mother board, it is more susceptible to static discharge - and of course moisture can cause more problems when it is on then off.

However, we're talking very little difference, compared to the much higher probability of your dog coming along and biting it.

However, it does consume a surprising amount of power, even when asleep.

  8. In the long run no. After a while it slows down your laptop a lot and

    reduces battery life.

I used to leave my laptop on 24/7 due to my P2P radio. But then it got really slow and (for a weird reason) my fan started to pack up.

Leaving it in sleep mode is not advisable either (hibernate is usually better) as it can result in the above - just with a reduced chance of it happening.

If you can't shut down the laptop every night (say you have a radio to maintain) then why not shut it down say 2 nights a week - it's not perfect but it'll have to do. Or you could always buy another cheap laptop and leave that on all night - if you have a P2P thing.

So to sum up: Try not to leave your laptop on 24/7 (even if part of that time is with it sleeping) as it can reduce battery life, fry cables (as someone mentioned), decrease laptop performance, make your fan slower (as I found out) and maybe a few more things.

  9. I can't really leave mine oin 24/7 cause after a while it shuts itself off anyway. Question is though, why can't you turn it off to conserve the battery? I don't think its all that healthy to leave a desktop computer on for so long either, save for if its on a router.

  10. Yes.
