I a accidently cut my finger and had four stitches put in. About six days ago I had the stitches removed, but today I noticed that one was still there. I thought I could take the last one out myself and managed to open the knot. But it hurts extremely when I try to pull the thread. I am afraid to go to the doctor because of the pain. It already hurt really bad when the doctor took the stitches out the first time. So my question is is it ok to leave the last stitch in and let it just grow out by it self? It has been in for 18 days already.

  1. It all depends on what type of stitch. There are some stitches that will de solve by themselves, but the way that you have worded it I would say that one will not. So i say that you go to the doctor and get it taken out. If you don't I would think that your skin would grow around it because it is not like a splinter and your skin pushes it out this is sowed into your skin not punctured. So I would say go and get it taken out.

  2. you have to go to the doctor it might get infected

  3. You need to take it out or it might get infected. Pull it out yourself if possible

  4. DOCTOR!

If You Leave It In It Might hurt Even more

  5. You need to get it out...If the knot is out, heck i would have cut one end grab the knot and pull, its not like its a huge thing to pull out.

  6. you definitely have to remove the stitches, otherwise you might get an infection later. stitches on the hand normally is the non-dissolvable type. don't wait for it to dissappear, because it won't.

  7. You should go to the doctor! duhh
