Yes. That's where mine is. I should add that I have an old, non-computerized fridge, though.

Yes, it's fine.  When you rent a fridge/microwave combo for, lets say, a dorm room, the microwave is mounted on top of the freezer.

we have ours on top of our fridge because there is no room on the bench for it. we havent had a problem with it

My microwave oven has always been on top of my fridge. Never had a problem!

There's nothing wrong with putting the microwave on top of the fridge if you're just talking about whether it will still work or damage the fridge... but the problem is it's dangerous.

Lots of people get burnt every year from trying to get something out of a microwave that is too high for them.  Just be careful if you need to stir what is in there or if the bowl / plate you've put in is quite full.  Don't scald yourself!
