I have some green potatoes that I grew and rather than throw them out I thought I would plant them in pots in the greenhouse to hopefully have some homegrown spuds for christmas. Will they grow and if so - will the spuds they produce be ok to eat?

  1. YES, you can plant them (but not eat them).

Bare in mind, though, that any potatoes that you dig are not to be eaten if they are green.

Green Potatoes do not produce Green Potatoes, so they can be used as "seed potatoes" without any worry.

  2. You can use them as seed potatoes.  They'll produce edible potatoes.  The green is from growing "uncovered," i.e. out of the ground.  In no way does the green part affect any potatoes that might grow from it.

  3. Potatoes are turned green by solanine which is poisonous.  Bin them - you can't use them.

  4. DO NOT EAT OR PLANT THEM THEY ARE VERY POISONOUS
