I'm planting small strips of sod in the back garden, and i've heard that the best time to grow grass is in the fall, does this apply to zoysia grass?

  1. Zoysia sod will be fine to put out in the fall. I assume you are in a southern climate. September will give you a few months for the turf to establish a root system. Next spring it should really take off. good luck

  2. autumn is a great time for planting!!  the temps are cool enough for the roots to take hold.  water during the day and baby the grass till winter.  mulch well.

  3. Zoysia is a warm season grass, so you shouldn't plant it past mid May to Mid August.  It also grows very slowly so you needed to get it in the ground earlier so that it can get established before the winter. It's none of my business, but there are some pros and cons of zoysia. Pro-it is a beautiful grass. Con-it is very invasive to flower beds and neighbors yards.  You can put down grass seed this time of year in your area.  Grass seed (although not zoysia seed) is best planted in the fall or early spring.
