Is it ok to put a sanitary landfill near a dam that is used as a source of irrigation for rice fields?

  1. Personally I would not want to use water on food crops which might contain toxins from a nearby sanitary landfill.

    Who can guaranty that no toxins leach into the water? Lately spinach had to be recalled, because of illnesses.

    All sorts of pollutions and toxins end up in our  waste disposal systems.  


  2. yes. the extra nutrient from the landfill that will seep on the dam would actually be good for the plants. unless they are dumping toxic in there too

Water supply can be contaminated with coliforms and fecal coliforms which are hazardous to human health.  In some jurisdictions and with the EPA there are certain restrictions on how close you can have garbage and sewage near water sources because the bacteria leaches into the soil.  Then, of course, there is e-coli (nasty little organism) which can be fatal if ingested.
