My house is small so I need to put the chimney outside, but I want to put my wood stove in the basement and the only way I could do that is to put part of the chimney under ground is this ok? should I tar the parts that are underground to keep them from getting water in them or is there something else I should use? Also I need to run the pipe and clean-out through an 8inch concrete wall is this also ok?

Thank you mike

  1. you can start it underground but you may run into problems if you put the clean out door right across from the thimble going through the wall. any chance you could dig down a little and slope the dirt away to get your clean out as low as possible...i just started a chimney for a man that was for a woodstove that was in his basement but the grade outside was low enough to keep the cleanout lower than the thimble...
