  1. Windows XP home I take it. You have Service Pack 1 now instead of 3. That just means that you need to go to Microsoft Update and Update your computer. This may take some time depending on your connection speed.

As to your Internet being disabled, it is probably because it is not setup properly after your install.

You have to get the information from your ISP and set your Network Connections up again. Not enough info here to help you though.

If you have DSL you need to 1. Set your Default Gateway to be the IP Address of your router. 2. Set your connection to Automatically Obtain an IP Address under the Properties of Your Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). You also should enter the Primary and Secondary DNS Server Addresses (Get these from your ISP).  I hope this helps you.

    Cheers

  2. make sure your ethernet adapter plugin is installed. Right click My Computer>> Properties>> (tab)Hardware>> (button)Device manager.

If there are any yellow triangles with an exclamation point in them click on it. Those are the controllers that have missing plugins. double click to install them if you have the disk. Otherwise find them for your computer online.

    Then create an internet connection.
