If the paint is sanded/de glossed well does anyone see a problem with this? Will it last longer then a year or two before it looks bad?

  1. Its OK to skim coat or texture over a painted wall, and yes prep work is everything  for how well the job will look and how well it will last. SO do not skimp on the prep.

Watch out for wall paper, the water in the mud will cause it to wrinkle and leave air pockets  and bubbles the paper. You can seal it with a primer, but be careful, sometimes that will cause the same problem if put on to heavily.

  2. go ahead and skim-coat. in fact, i am currently involved with the exact same thing and it is turning out fine. i am even coating over wallpaper border, and everything looks good. i only had to remove the edges of the border where the "feathered edge" covers, and it works.

  3. no problem whatsoever seeing as you did it already.   No reason to wait a year.  If it looks bad, it will look bad right after the paiint drys..

  4. just make sure to sand

  5. not a problem. de-gloss it. In fact i would put a coat of flat paint down first before the compound.
