Question:

Is it ok to solder without flux?

i cant find any flux but i really need to get this kit built for a presentation in electronics after tomorrow. would it be ok if i soldered without flux? or would it give me bad connections all the time without it. and i checked radio shack and they didn't have flux there, so i don't know where i could go to get flux. would they have some in walmart perhaps? please help!

  1. Almost all electronics solder has the flux in the core of the solder, so you probaly will be ok.  The standard solder at radio shack is flux cored solder.  In other words, the solder has a tiny amount of flux inside the core of the solder.


  2. yes, but the flux is there to help you solder correctly. it cleans the connections, it helps the solder flow.

    you can solder without it, but it will make life difficult and could cause cold solder joints.

    You can find flux core solder at Walmart, Kmart, Home Depot, Lowes, AutoZone, NAPA Auto Parts....
