What are the precautions to be taken while swimming (only occasionally) in a swimming pool that has turned green due to algal bloom and how long is it advisable to swim in such a water?

  1. NO!!

If the pool is nasty enough for algae to grow in there, that means there's stuff worse than algae in there too. The algae itself is harmless, but it's an indicator of an improperly disinfected pool.

  2. lakes have algae....

  3. If i was you i wouldnt swim in it at all, but if you desperately want too, then i wouldnt put my head under. Its normal for lakes to have alage, but not swimming pools. It means that its lacking in sufficient chemical substance, ie chlorine, and therefore is germ infested, therefore is unhealthy. I sure as h**l wouldnt swim in it, but if you do, i wouldnt recommend longer that 10 minutes. And sure as h**l dont swallow it, you could be in some trouble if you do that!

  4. Algae is disgusting, not deadly.

    It should be OK

  5. Yuck! That's a nasty swimming pool! I wouldn't get into it. A swimming pool shouldn't have anything accept water and chlorine. (It's not a lake, river, pond or beach)

I would wonder about what other things are growing in there and I would be concerned about some strange germ crawling up my behind!! Yuck!

  6. If I were you, I wouldn't swim in algae-infested pool - it is not clean or properly treated with chlorine or algae was not removed by those swimming pumps.  You might develop skin rashes.  I had it done it before in the past and it took me a while to recover.  If you can't resist swimming, I would suggest not longer than two hours and thoroughly clean yourself.
