Question:

Is it ok to take many tablets at a time?

Hey everyone,

I eat various supplements (in tablet form) everyday:

- Zinc tablet (for good skin/male reproductive health)

- Calcium (for bones)

- Vitamin D (for calcium absorption)

- Cod Liver Oil capsule (cognitive/heart health)

I was wondering - is it okay to take all these tablets in the morning, one after the other? Or do I have to wait for a certain period of time between tablets?

Because I don't want tablets 'reacting' with each other and 'killing' one another.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks :D

  1. I wouldn't take them all at once. Take them throughout the day with small meals and water.

  2. Hey Thugster.  You received a lot of BAD advice - including the "info." from the PhD.  The only good advice you received was from Kristin, so I gave her answer a thumbs up.

First, taking these supplements together is fine.  It is no different that eating foods together in a meal.

Second, supplements generally should be taken with a meal (especially fat soluble supplements like Vitamin D and Cod Liver Oil), because the body's digestive processes  are needed for absorption of the supplements.

Third, Cod Liver Oil is an excellent source of Vitamin D, so you may not need the other Vitamin D supplement.

Fourth, the latest research on Vitamin D supplementation is very, very clear (the PhD is NOT current on his knowledge).  Most people are deficient in Vitamin D and most people need 1000 to 2000 IU per day of supplements to attain optimum Vitamin D levels in the body.  Note, these doses are 2 to 5 times the RDA, which is why the leading Vitamin D researchers are pushing hard for the government to change the RDA to scientifically defensible levels (1000 IU).

Additionally, on Vitamin D - It is a vitamin and NOT a hormone, however, the body can convert it to the hormone form (1,25 - dihydroxycholecalciferol).  This process is highly regulated and recent studies have shown that healthy adults can take 10,000 IU per day for six straight months without any dangerous side effects!  I do not recommend this level of intake (10,000 IU), but 1000 - 2000 IU per day is absolutely safe.  Dozens of scientific studies have shown this to be true.

Fifth, Cod Liver Oil contains essential fatty acids (omega-3s).  These are easily oxidized and therefore, a additional vitamin E supplement is generally recommended for those taking 'fish oil' supplements.  Be sure to take a natural vitamin E supplement - synthetic E has 'issues'.

Finally, please understand that Nutrients Work In Harmony.  You need all of them, in a balanced amount, for proper health and physiological functions.  Thus, Kristin, is correct - a quality (not a cheap centrum or One-A-Day) supplement is a wise choice.

    Best wishes.

  3. yeah its absolutly fine to take all of these in one sitting.... i would advise  during a big meal,     you may want to include a antioxidant regiment in their as well.....   omega fatty acids  like in the liver oil   may cause high oxidative stress        but    their is no harm in taking all of these supplements at once.

their is some litterature out there that advises not to take to much vitamin D   over a course of time because it is a "hormone" in all reality and   over doing any hormone may have some down the line side effects... although it does have some anti-cancer benefits as well.

  4. Yes take tablets  one at a time and don't take this all tablets in the morning it can result you to overdose or it cause some bad side effects.

I recommend you to take one particular tablet that contains all elements or benefits  that each tablet you take than taking those tablets. Ask your doctor about this and he can help you with this problem.

  5. I have been taking vitamins for years, and it's fine to take all of those at the same time except for the calcium.

The calcium should not be taken at the same time as any other medications, it will not properly absorb. Wait 3-4 hours.

  6. Why don't you p**s the pills off and try eating a balanced diet including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

  7. you should be fine but i'd bet it would be easier to take a multi-vitamin
