I left my job last week. I presented a resignation to my manager and it DID not go well. SHe was furious, angry , verbally attacked me and told me to leave that day. ( that is no unusual in this office and has happened in the past. )

Saying that my departure was pretty much immediate. I have been called by several of my employees that I managed to tell me that my manager in attempt to 'look good" told them that "FUVITAS left early due to a medical reason/"

I felt they needed to know that I was asked to leave that day, my manager was lying and I told them that she verbally attacked me. I just couldn't bare the thought of that witch lying trying to cover her fat assss.

Is this ok to do when you have an employee ask "I heard you have been sick.. are you ok? "

  1. There is nothing wrong with being honest.  I am shocked with how many of these people on this are telling you to go along with thie lying manager!  I am reading this as if you too were a manager.   I would agree that I would NEVER want some c**p story like the one you got tossed about to be told to your employees.   They are going to call, they are worried about you.  It's best to say " I was never in the hospital, and I do not know why that was told to you."  If asked why you left tell them you had a better opportunity.   If asked why you left so quickly tell them you were asked to do so.  There is nothing wrong with this approach.  It will only make your manager be seen for what she is a liar!

I personally think it is wrong to take the lie of you left due to illness and then continue to tell them you are "better".  Thats a lie!  How would you feel if you got get well cards sent to your home?  Your manager is not trust worthy or honest.  Let her be seen for what she is.   SHe can scramble around if your employees tell her that they spoke to you and that you were never hospitalized, and in fact were asked to leave that day....  let the fat ***** squirm.

  2. You did the right thing. Going along with the lie would work against you in trying to land your next job. From what you  say, your employees understood, or they wouldn't have asked if your new place is hiring.

You situation happens in business everywhere at one time or another -- I knew a guy that was SO liked by his employees, that when he took another job in order to get away from HIS bitchy boss, half of them quit! The other half started looking for work somewhere else.

The thing to do in this situation is to not lie, but to not berate the manager while interviewing for a NEW job. Just say you 2 were not well suited, and you took another job, then leave it at that. With you gone, I'm sure your then-employees have realized what REALLY went on. In the case of my friend, once he left, the employee rate in that office nose dived by about 85%, and she was fired.

    YOU did the right thing.

  3. I don't know if I would tell the entire truth, or use the word "lie." Maybe just a general statement such as, we had a disagreement.

People talk, and you'd be surprised who knows whom, who might end up dating whom or being hired or promoted by them, etc. etc. It frankly sounds like you have already made up your mind what you want to do, but please know that dishing up the dirt on your former boss might someday come back to bite you. Not that she doesn't deserve it, maybe she does, but you don't deserve to be punished for her bad behavior, and there is a chance you will be seen as the "bad guy" in this especially if someone would happen to hear only her side of the story and not yours. Please try and let it go, if you can.

  4. Keep it simple, just say "I'm fine."  If they persist, say it must have been a misunderstanding.

Try to keep it all positive, if they form their own opinion of your ex-boss, that's their business, but avoid saying anything negative that might come back to haunt you.

  5. Clearly the only reason why you want to tell the truth is because you don't like, "her fat assss".  And for that, I'd say, leave it alone, just tell your ex-coworkers that your medical reasons are just fine...move on!

  6. I wouldn't.  Just say, "I'm doing fine, thanks." and change the subject.  Be the better person.  Good luck with your new job.

  7. I'd tell them the truth as it'll help them deal with that manager.

Anytime something funny goes on, they'll be more aware of what the truth is.

  8. I don't think you are being bad towards your previous employer by telling the truth. Say it as it happened, only in a non bitchy way.

Don't let people worry about you when there was nothing to worry about.

  9. I don't know how big of a company you worked for, but if the company has a main office, If it's a small company with only one small building, I would have a good long talk with the owner, express how your ex-manager attacked, and talked to you, or talk to her boss or go higher in the company as you can to tell someone about this manager. You should write everything down about what your old manager said to you, how she said it and what she did, just write all the facts down, and if you pursue what I'm telling you, then you should also write down who, what, when, where, and why you talked....

  10. Truth.

  11. tell them whatever you want but you're not there anymore and i wouldnt worry about it...especailly b/c it will cause hostility or resentment in the office and i'm sure those other girls need their jobs dont jeopordize them, you're out...i went though the same thing and my boss actually refused to give me my last paycheck which is illegal but anyhting to not have to deal w/ her again

  12. You know what?  Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy.  Just tell them the truth, then later on you won't have to backtrack (and your boss may learn a lesson about lying when it comes back on her).

Just don't badmouth your boss in the process.

  13. she has gone mad or she thought it was normal....
