I bought a 6lbs bag of ground beef and didnt have time to cut it into separate 1lbs bags. So , I want to unfreeze it and then separate it and then put it back in the freezer. Is that ok for the meat?

  1. Yeah it's okay. I've done it before and I'm still healthy. When you thaw it do not thaw it in the microwave because it cooks a little and if you freeze that again you will get sick.

  2. yes it is fine i work in restuarant for years and it is common to do with beef ,dont worry cause when cooking it kills bacteria and yes i am sure 100%

  3. No, you cannot unthaw it, divide it and refreeze it. There is a possibility of food poisoning when you do that.

  4. Nope you cannot do that it will spoil. Once it's thawed it must be eaten.

  5. Yes it is ok to refreeze. For years I thought it was not and refused to ever do so (I am a self-proclaimed germaphobe and have a Master's in Public Health) until I read what the FDA has to say about freezing and food safety.

Although it is safe, I still avoid doing so just to preserve the quality of my meats and poultry, but in the event I need to I will refreeze knowing myself and family will be safe.

  6. I have refrozen it, but only after it's been cooked.

  7. nope, once it's unfrozen that is it

  8. Not safe, but can be done.  if you are going to do it, i would make sure to use it in something that gets througly cooked, basically casaroles or soups.  I wouldn't risk grilling/burgers since they don't necisarily get cooked as well.

    what i would recommend:

i would brown it all in the microwave, drain the the greese and then you can re-freeze it safely.   you can thaw it for casaroles, soups, and other things that just have ground beef added.

  9. yes it is okay no harm to it

  10. No. once it has been thawed out it can't be refrozen. Sorry.
