Question:

Is it ok to touch the baby hamsters?

The baby hamsters are about a week old. Their mother is very secure with us and allows us to peek into the nest several times a day. The mother hamster is very active at night and often allows us to take her out of her cage for a few minutes. There are nine babies now, there used to be twelve. When the dead babies were found, they were taken out of the nest (using a spoon) and had apeared unharmed. The mother tried to put them back into the nest. Do you think it'd be ok to touch the babies now?

  1. Only if Mamma Hamster lets you.  If she hisses or spits or looks like she'll bite you then back off.  There's no real reason to be touching the hamster pups anyway since they get all the attention they need from Mamma.  Animals are very territorial and protective when it comes to their young.

  2. well maybe but they dont like human scent and so she might eat 'em..... sounds gross but its just instinct. In the best interest of the babies i would just wait.

  3. ya

  4. It's a risky chance you'd be taking by touching them.  Some mothers won't like it and some won't  mind, but you should wait until their a couple weeks old.

  5. Unless there's a real good reason (they are so cute does not count :) - its not wise to touch them until they are fully furred, eyes open and roaming about the cage. Wait longer if you have a nervous mom.

  6. Please don't touch the babies until they are at least 3 weeks old. If you do the mum will eat her babies. Even though she is sucure with you don't toutch them. If you don't touch them thanx. :]-

  7. ive had 24 hamsters in my life, lol, cuase our mama and daddy hamster wouldnt stop having babies. its ok to touch them, cuase the mom already is familiar with your scent, so its totally fine, we picked up our babies all the time

  8. NO don't risk it. Some mothers will reject their young when they have you scent on them and refuse to feed them. Just wait until they are covered and fur and stuff. I would do a bit of research because you need to take  the babies out at a certain age and I'm not exactly sure.

  9. NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if u do then the mum will get Ur scent and will disown  them and all of them will die

but at some point you will have to take them         out because she will eat them

  10. Wait a little longer.
