Is it ok to use BOLD formatting in a legal pleading letter?

Is it polite to use bold formatting to add emphasis to certain words without sounding too condescending?

I am fighting a court case in a few weeks time and I'm wondering if using BOLD formatting in a letter is appropriate or not.

I wouldnt use it in a legal document.  The written word is so easy to misunderstand because there is no voice inflection.  Keep it simple, honest and straight forward.
