So long as there's obviously nothing in the jar with it in the way of dead insects etc and the lid's been on tightly it should be perfectly alright to eat - there's nothing in it that CAN go off ! ! !

if there is mold on the top, scrape it off.  Otherwise it's probably still good.  remember that bacteria cannot grow in that highly sugary environment, but the rest of the jar is fair game for being contaminated.  so that means the jar and the lid, but you'll be ok if the jar has been kept in a cool dry place.

as its mostly sugar, i would say that if it looks ok, and tastes ok, then you might as well!
