Is it ok to use cruise control in small hilly areas?

I am just curious if it will damage or effect it in any way.

No I shouldn't think so. I have been driving through the hilly areas in my mercedes for many years using cruise control. You just have to be alert to any sharp bends or oncoming traffic on narrow stretches

cruise is mostly for interstate driving, not hilly country. after all, hitting the brake, all you will get done is resetting the cruise.
