Question:

Is it ok to use medicated reptile sand for my ball python?

i just got it from the petstore because the other stuff was too expensive.and then i got home and set it up and my ball python is hesitant on going onto it.it is red medicated reptile sand.i read that some sand can be used and others cannot.thank you:D

  1. Use newspaper or paper towels until you can get the proper substrate. It is very important for him to feel comfortable, and teh sand might stress him.


  2. he wont like it, try using aspen shavings or reptile bedding.

  3. Sand is for desert animals. Ball pythons are tropical and need something which can hold humidity, like cypress, aspen, or Eco-Earth. You'll probably have shedding problems with sand.

  4. it wont kill him but he wont like it because they are more of a dirt burrowing snake and live in the jungle, not the dessert.
