Is it ok to use normal shampoo to bathe my cat..?

normal human shampoo to bathe my cat.

i lost his normal shampoo bottle..and i need to take him a bath today because my cat is white..and he went into the fireplace..and now he is all black. and i have no time to buy him a new one. is it fine to use suave or pantene to bathe my cat today?

no, only used shampoo approved for animals. there are ingredients in people shampoo t hat should not be ingested internally by animals or people. you can go to your local groomer and ask for a shampoo that is good to keep pets with white fur in their original state.

Cat shampoo is best, but the vet I work for also recommends using a small amount of Dawn dishsoap.  Not sure why that is better, but when a client asked her about human shampoo the other day, that is what she told them.

I wouldn't do it.  They both are loaded with perfumes that might irritate his skin.

If you MUST, use very little pre-mixed with water.

Baby shampoo would be better.

Of the two shampoos I would use the sauve- but try this-use water and baking soda- it is gentle and no harsh perfumes-be sure to rinse well-

I keep baby shampoo on hand for my 2 dogs and cat- it works well.

Dawn dish soap is good to degrease or to stun fleas to get them of but not as a regular shampoo.

you should buy  cat shampoo but since you cant      use baby shammpoo so if it gets in its eyes it wont burn them.

Most human shampoos are inappropriate for cats, as cats have very thin skin and absorb the chemicals into their bodies. If you must use a human shampoo, the only ones that are acceptable are the 'plain' unscented ones like ivory. Also, cats should only be gives baths when absolutely necessary, like getting into the fireplace. Regular baths are not necessary for cats and can even be harmful.

My suggestion? Mix a little shampoo into a cup with warm water and use the diluted mixture which will foam anyway, and wash it off fast. I think Pantene is sort of gentler. On my hair that is, and I ahve frizzy, fine hair.
