My dog and I always have walked 3 miles everyday up until she far along in her pregnancy. She had her litter over 3 weeks ago and I was just wondering if it was ok for her to start walking again? Didn't know if it was bad for her health or anything like that. Thanks!

  1. Let her rest until she seems active enough. Get her spayed. You arent a reputable breeder, no matter how much you think you are. Reputable breeders would know the answer already.

p.s. you think you're doing your dog a favor by having it bred? Try NOT!

  2. Ignoring the 'should you have done this in the first place', for now - a little exercise and fresh air is actually good for the nursing *****.  By now her puppies should be well on their way to being weaned however, so by all means, provided you don't do 3 miles (hah) yet,  You don't say whether she had a C.Section or not, but if so, she's obviously going to take longer to get back to feeling 100%.  However, I'd say sensible exercise won't hurt - but do be careful where you take her for fear of bringing infection back to the litter.  If possible keep her away from other dogs for the time being - and incidentally, it's a doubly good idea not to take her around where other dogs are 'going' as she'll still be open behind and at risk of infection herself, should she happen to squat in the wrong place.

There is some relevance in the thought that if you have to come on here to ask this sort of question, perhaps you should be considering this litter as a one off - and getting your ***** spayed halfway between when she was last in season, and the next.

  3. A walk is good for the dog. But I wouldnt go far at all. You want to make sure she isnt away from the puppies that long.

  4. You can walk her, but don't walk her that far. Take her around the block, but she needs time to heal and recooperate. Just a small walk is fine, but let her heal until after the puppies find new homes and are able to be away from her.

  5. It's okay to walk her but start with short distances.  Having pups takes a great deal out of the Mom plus she's nursing and that can also keep her tired and needing more rest and nutrition than usual.  Try walking down the block for about 20 yards and back.  She how she is and the next day you may want to add another 2-3 yards, etc.  But certainly do not rush and expect her to be back to her energetic self for at least 3-4 months.
