I'm going to NY for a weekend and we have reservations for my birthday dinner at Balthazar's. Would it be too formal?

  1. I say why not??  You might be a bit overly dressed, but so what!!  you will stand out looking good!!!

You will look like a sexpot!!  Have a happy birthday!!!

  2. Mostly too dressy for what is a bistro, not fine French food.  Very expensive casual would be more typical.

  3. I don't think it should be a problem.  Balthazaar is a pretty classy place, and for all anyone else knows, you might be going somewhere fancy afterwards.

  4. I think it depends on the rest of your party and how they're dressed.  When I was there this past Christmas I mainly saw people in slacks, collared shirts/jackets, dresses/skirts, jeans, etc.  I don't remember seeing anything of the satin variety, but again I think if the rest of your party was dressed accordingly (and your dress isn't over the top) I think you would be fine.

P.S.  Enjoy!   We had a really great time, really good food and wine.

  5. absolutely....sounds like fun...I'm sure you'll have a blast and you will be dressed to kill!  :)
