My friend is currently in a relationship with a 18 year old woman and I do not think it is appropriate , even though it is with the law. If she was a few years older I can understand.I need help on how to persuade him to change his mind

  1. If their relationship is a healthy one, why should you tamper with it?...Leave them alone.

  2. You have to let your friend make his own mistakes.  It is within the law, but what could they possibly have in common?  I'd just say to step back, he's a grown man and he is the only one to make the decision about dating this girl.

  3. if she is that young she will probably get bored with him pretty quick so i wouldn't even worry about it

  4. i think if he really likes her then its ok, just let him date her, if things work out great... if not then oh well

  5. Why isn't it appropriate? Give me one real reason, my parents are 20 years apart and i'm here aren't i?

  6. You sound pretty jealous to me.

  7. Its legal but its up to them. If I see that, I'd think something is up.

  8. Even if you think it's not appropriate, it's not up to you to persuade him to change his mind if they're both happy in the relationship. Relationships can work with much bigger age differences than that, and as you say, it's within the law. Do you really want to spoil your friend's and his girlfriend's happiness because they're not happy in a way *you* like?

  9. It's perfectly legal and I don't think it is wrong as long as neither person is misleading the other about their intentions and expectations.

He's a grown man capable of making his own decisions. It's unlikely that anything you say or do will dissuade him from dating this young woman. However, it is also unlikely that the relationship will last given their vast age difference.  She's barely out of high school. She's not even old enough to get into bars and nightclubs. What could they possibly have in common?

  10. This kind of question varies from person to person. It's really down to a matter of opinion in the long run.

She'll probably leave him for someone younger once they're married, but he'll have to learn that the hard way. Live and learn.

In my honest opinion, I think that it's not really okay. I say the age difference should be 9 years AT THE MOST, but that's just me.

  11. Maybe your friend isn't equipped to deal with women closer to his own age or maybe he just saw something in this particular 18 year old that he's really attracted to. They could both be the same reason, but I can't imagine what you could do to persuade him not to date her. Men are historically attracted to very young women. He's not the first and he wont be the last. Trust. ';-)
