Question:

Is it okay for a Lexus a tune-up at the Toyota dealer

My Lexus RX has a plastic cover underneath my car and it's halfway loose, I may need a new one ordered. Also, I need a 5K tune-up (oil, check brakes, tires, air filter, etc.)

Toyota can do the tune-up, but I'm not sure about that plastic part-

I need truthful advice on the difference if I take my RX to the Lexus dealer or the Toyota dealer for servicing.

Thank you in advance.

  1. A lexus RX is no different as far as the engine than any Camry, Highlander or Sienna. A Toyota dealer can do ANY service a Lexus dealer can. AS for the plastic engine cover it is the same as a Toyota as well with the exception that it has a Lexus badge on it instead of a Toyota badge. Remember no matter which RX you have from RX300 to RX350 to RX400H their engine all go in a Toyota. Also a 5K only includes an oil and tire rotation and inspection. If the car was in for a 5K(new car service) there would be no reason to replace the air filter. That is part of a 30K, 60K, 90K, 120K service.

  2. Go to the Toyota dealer.A lot of the parts are the same (Toyota vs Lexus).I see more & more Lexus vehicles at the Toyota dealership I work for mainly because the quality of work is the same but the price is much better. If it's under warranty...sure,go to Lexus. If you're refering to the plastic splash shield under the engine,It can likely be re-secured w/o replacing (not secured by the last place that changed your oil most likely-they should do it for FREE).If we need a "Lexus only" part we simply call the Lexus dealer & get it for you.In North Carolina (no city, please) we charge about $50 for a 5k.The Lexus store charges $125 (but washes your car for "free").You do the math.

  3. Is this the first 5k service? If so, I'd go to the dealer and say you want the cover replaced under the warranty. But it doesn't sound like it is so, going to the Toyota dealer should be just fine. there are most likely the same engines in both brands.

  4. It should make no difference, as a Lexus is a Toyota.

  5. Wouldn't it be easy if you had a way to contact the toyota dealership to find?

Oh wait, there is, it's called a phone.

ADDED: See, from the answers below, no one knows for sure. Toyota may not have the system to even order the Lexus part you need, that's why I suggested calling them.

  6. Since the motors are same then yes.and for part they can have in minutes or if Lexus dealer doe not have the next day.

  7. Toyota should be able to perform  most basic service like 5k just call first to double ck, the plastic cover could be a little problem if any part is require they may not be able to get it same day.

But if you own a Lexus should be for a reason you will get  a different level of service at Toyota, & better one at  Lexus service because is a luxury brand and they will be able to fix or order part  for  plastic cover if it need any or if you are lucky they will have it in stock.

I will said if you paid the price for a premium brand enjoy the ride even when going for service and if dealer has a loaner program u most likely will be driving another Lexus, good luck.
