  1. okay i do kempo(variation) and it doesnt matter how old you are or heavy, what matters is that you will not quit and try to get good at it. if you think youll committ to it then you should absolutly join the class.

  2. Not at all and not everyone is an athlete when they first start or in great shape.  A good school and instructor will realize this and push you while not tearing you down; instead they will build you into shape!  I recently heard a horror story from one of my female mother type students of a middle age female neighbor who is also a professional starting in a school not far from me and her first night they had her do some ridiculous number of push-ups and sit-ups.  She was so sore afterwords that she had trouble going to work the next day.  Needless to say she did not go back and has no interest in doing martial arts now.  So shop around but if you are concerned about this do some sit-ups, jumping jacks, push-ups, and stretching for a three to four weeks every other day before you actually start.  Enjoy!

  3. You should go for it. You are not too heavy or too old.

    Good luck!

  4. Kenpo would be good for you. Don't worry about size. A good instructor will bring you along at your own pace. Age wise you would be in the adult classes and I'm sure you will feel right at home from the onset. Kenpo is a great art. It is very eclectic. I say go for it friend, as long as it is a good school, you'll never regret it. Wait too long and you may.

  5. never too young. if youre worried about your weight, this could be a good way to shed a few pounds. good luck to you.

  6. I have been studying Martial Arts for over 40 years. I am a 4th Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. You are never too old or too heavy. My only advice is if you are really interested then join and never give up!

  7. This is really up to you and the instructor... kenpo/karate is a heavy percussion style martial art, so there's not usually too much grappling/falling... Also, it's a really great way to get in shape. Your safest bet though is to talk it over with the sensei and maybe try it out.
