My husband drinks a lot of Gatorade and has been giving my 11 month old some in her sippy cup because she always wants to drink his. Is this okay for her? I am a little hesitant.....

  1. I'm sure he means well and your daughter loves the taste.  I think it is fine but maybe try watering it down a little.  I'm sure it is much healthier than the juice that most are having ...

  2. ive heard you shouldn't because they have electrolytes that are designed for intense workouts a 180 lb man would do. im sure its not very harmful, but best to avoid sports and energy drinks liek that until they are bout 4-5 at least.

  3. Yea totally fine =]

  4. no its not even meant to be had by just you and me. its a SPORTS drink so unless your working out your not meant to have it. And I'm thinking that your 11 month old wont be running any triathlons any time soon.

Id be telling your hubby not to be doing that any more. Good luck.

  5. Is your baby running a marathon??? NO

  6. totally fine.  our pediatrician recommends it, especially during gastrointestinal illness. just so long as it's not replacing the necessary amount of food and milk for nutrition.

  7. I would say no - simply because of the extremely high salt content.  The way gatorade hydrates is by increasing the sodium in the drink which makes your body hold onto water.  More importantly, gatorade has so much sugar in it - and not the good kind - the high-fructose corn syrup kind.  The less of that stuff you put in her diet, the better.

If she is thirsty, give her some water or some juice mixed with water.  Make sure it's real 100% juice with no corn syrup.  Maybe make up a fun name for it so she knows it's her special drink.

  8. No, gatorade has electrolytes which could cause your baby's heart to race.  Not healthy for her

  9. Oh please don't be one of those parents who gives their kids gatorade instead of something that's actually good for them. It's just glorified kool aid with electrolytes added.  She likes it because it's loaded with sugar.  No 11 month old needs that c**p.

  10. i doubt it will hurt her. its just loaded with sugar.

  11. I wouldn't think that would be OK...but compare the labels of gatorade and pedialyte, if they're the same, then I guess (although I would never do it!)

  12. Ask your doctor.  Mine says it is ok especially if they are sick.  Clear gatorade doesn't stain like Pedialite when they throw up either.

  13. Stick with Pedialyte because sports drinks have extra sugars that aren't good for toddlers.
