Is it okay for sterling silver to be exposed to constant water?

I have a sterling silver ring. Can I wear it while I shower, wash my hands etc? What about hair mousse?

It should be fine in contact with water.

However, silver tarnishes very easily in the presence of sulfides.  The hair products and soap may contain sulfur-containing chemicals - they are present as some amino acids and even some fragrances.  Wearing silver when using these products may cause the ring to tarnish.

But tarnishing is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to it, and this can always be remedied by silver polish...
