Question:

Is it okay if I leave my computer on for a long time?

My computer is not designed for any high end games or anything, so I don't really see why I need to let it rest. Actually, the only reason I need to always leave it open is because of Utorrent. But anyways, how long can I leave my computer on, without it blowing up?

  1. you could leave it on for 5 years, 8 months, 4 days, 6 hours, 7 mins and 7 seconds.

because then you will have a new one

  2. The concern shouldn't be about it blowing up or anything, realistically you can leave your computer on for a year straight.

But this puts extra strain on your hardware. Your CPU will need to have its thermal paste reapplied fairly often or else it will start to gradually overheat until it eventually gets too hot and starts taking your CPU's lifespan away.

The most realistic component to die first from excessive use is the hard drive, especially if you leave uTorrent going constantly.

You also run the risk of killing your power supply, especially if it's cheap. If your PSU goes while the computer is running, it can take the rest of your hardware with it, which is costly.

So basically, you can do whatever you want in terms of computer usage. Just be prepared to spend money replacing components sooner than you would have had to. If you're like me, that's not really a concern, because it's just an excuse to buy something better when something fails haha.

  3. If you put it on standby it will be fine.

You could also leave it open and charging as long as it fan isn't covered up by anything.

  4. First you should have clear thinking,

how much electrical energy you are wasting for the sake of downloading through utorrent.

Secondly utorrent will give you output as and when some peers or seeds are connected which hold your file's remaining data.

just make a note of it and start your pc as per known schedule/ behavior of the peers.

Same thing  I do i have scheduled to log off at particular time because peers are very less thereafter. Atleast more than 5 peers should be there to give you normal download speed if it is not then thank you shut down the pc

  5. yea jus leave it nd the screen would go black but it still works or press stand by so when u come back it'll be there

  6. idk but my Aunt has had her computer on for about 1 year already without turning it off

actually i think this might be the second.

    mayb 3

    really havent kept count

  7. In recent studies it is proven that leaving your computer on uses less electricity than turning it on several times a day

  8. I onli use my computer for music...it says on all day and night

I've been doin that for the past 3 years, it hasnt blew up yet

    so ur safe

  9. bored

  10. i leave my computer on for months at a time. no problems here. i restart it only when i install a program.

  11. as long as you like

  12. no because you can get a virus... because my wife did that,, and now her computer will not let her get on the internet

  13. Put it on stand by so then when you want to go on you just press the button and it goes right back to where you were on your desktop

  14. There's a debate as to whether it's actually cheaper to leave your computer on continually (With exceptions, of course), or to turn it on and off whenever you're done. Either way, you'll be burning energy, so, it's not that bad to leave it on. Leaving it on for a night or two isn't that bad at all -- I usually do it when I'm downloading a game or a very large patch.

  15. I haven't turned my mid-grade computer off in weeks, and the fan hasn't increased in speed more than twice (then stopped  of course).

If you don't have an AlienWare computer,or some high-tech thing of the sort, then there isn't really a deadline that you should be worried about passing.

  16. I'm guessing you're using a laptop.  In my experience you can leave it on for about as long as you want, but if you're going to leave it plugged in for extended periods of time, you're going to want to remove the battery.  Charging your battery for too long is a sure-fire way to "fry it" to the point that it will only hold a charge for up to 1 hour.

  17. Its best to leave it on.  But if you dont want it to burn out just sleep it when you go to sleep or leave for extended periods of time.  It will be fine.  Just make sure you use compressed air and other things to clean out the drives and cards inside the unit.  This will prevent overheating and in the long run give you more life on your computer.

  18. i think you should turn it off when you're not using it: global warming. plus, it just adds to your electric bill.

  19. i always always always turn my monitor off when im away from my computer for long periods of time, especially during the hottest parts of the year as my monitor (box type) is a significant source of heat.

  20. Not sure, but I haven't shut my off for 3 years.
