As quite frankly, they are getting tiresome. Would they come under trolling or spam?

  1. No. Creatism can be considered part of anthropology.  Since Evolution doesnt have the hard evidence and backing that other theories do, like special reliativity and general reliavitivy, then I dont see anything wrong with people talking about Creationism in a anthropological sectoin.

  2. I agree with you.  Its done only to stir up the water and promote a personal agenda, not to advance any knowledge.

  3. While many of the creationists posting here are just mean spirited control freaks, a few are just victims of those enemies of knowledge.  However, if one types in "If humans evolved from monkeys (or apes), why are they still here?" The page will be filled with answers to that question.

I say some questions should be deleted just as mine would be if I said their question was poppy c**k or balderdash.  Some people are willfully ignorant & want to drag everyone else into dark ages with them.  Their goal in here is to drive those seeking real knowledge out of the section by filling it with stupid questions.  Yes, I think they must be reported... most spammers hide their repeated questions on the same subject.

  4. Just ignore them.  Or slam them, if you think you've got a good answer.

  5. no...seems petty

  6. Well, I have to 100% agree with you that they are indeed getting tiresome...  I am perfectly fine with people asking questions about evolution for the sake of clarity, and it really helps if they seem to have done SOME reading.  The question that Jim Z mentioned is another instance of people asking the same thing over and over... some people need to learn to check the existing questions to see if thiers is already there, and then watch it if nothing else.  I don't know if all of them should be reported, but some of them should... at least if nothing else, the ones who reply to any evolution question with such ardent hatred... and most of these people probably haven't even bothered to read any serious works on evolution, much less The Origin of Species, and especially The Descent of Man.  I do have to agree with Jim D on appreciating freedom of thought, but I don't want to see that point abused over and over again, particularly by people who are so spiteful - I think that is what they should be reported for - perhaps both the posting the same questions, but also that they are showing disrespect to other members.  We are here for knowledge and discussion, not fighting.

  7. h**l Yes!  You have to use judgement though.  Someone asking the same damned question over and over again needs to find another soapbox somewhere.  Likewise, rhetorical questions ["Why don't evolutionists understand that their viewpoint is a close-minded conspiracy," etc. etc.] don't add anthing to the forum.  But there are a lot of creationist questions that could be legitimately asked in this area.  For instance  "I read that the research behind the Peppered Moth data was fabricated  by evolutionists to butress their argument.  What's the story behind that?" would be a legitimate question, as opposed to "Why do evolutionists continue to use the peppered moth myth to advance their theory when they know it's not true?"  which is a loaded question that shouldn't be bothered with in this forum.

People looking for answers belong here.  People looking for polemics should try elsewhere.  I'd like to know why creationsists don't see a logical contradiction between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2.  I wouldn't ask that here.  It belongs in a religious belief forum.  And only then if I want to know how they think, rather than trying to bait them into an argument.

  8. I agree with the first answerer.  It does seem petty to report something just because you don't agree with it.

EDIT= If they are posting the same question over and over, then I would consider that spaming and yes, would report it.

  9. If you thihnk creationists are using bad science then refute the science.

I see plenty of abuse of creationists, but precious little to dent their scientifically superior position.

Go ahead - prove me wrong - using science.

  10. Mathilda, I say we should respect the concept of freedom of thought. If this includes a few individuals who want to offer a particular view, so let em.

I favor the right of the individual to ask or answer as he/she sees fit, I am therefore against allowing just anybody to violate a Q or A just because it offends them.

Where is it written that we cannot be offended? Pat Robertson offends me just about when his lips begin moving but I have no urge to...ban him.

It should be the same in here.

  11. No. You can't report just because you disagree (all the creationists could then report every question involving the sciences they don't accept).

You CAN, however, report repeated postings. If someone obsessively posts the same question, that's a violation.

Do read the Guidelines. For instance, non-questions and non-answers are also violations. (So if someone posts a "Believe or BURN!!!!" type thing, that's a rant, and non-question, and so, reportable.)

  12. Why not, people want others to see what they think and putting it in other classifications get them noticed.

  13. Sorry, Matilda but I don't believe in reporting anything.  I think Freedom of Speech is a very precious human right.  Yes there are nasties out there who target people and their ideas but they are just vindictive types who like nothing better than to gang up in their groups to get at you.  Fair enough to report lurid comments/sexual predators etc. but that should be as far as it goes.  Do not play them at their own game.  Ignore it.  I do not like the reporting system in this forum at all.  Also I think there are all types out there: educated, undereducated, crazy, sane you name it and many stated opinions are just tongue in cheek anyway.  I think the Community Rules make it wide open for political incorrectness - it can be quite a minefield so best not to add to it I think.

  14. Just because something is a proven hoax doesn't mean it is not part of anthropology, for example: the Piltdown man.

Besides, study of religion and its effects on society (whether positive or negative) is part of cultural anthropology.

It is always more convenient for subjects like creationists to come to the anthropologist rather than having the anthropologist search them out in their natural habitats (No one wants to do THAT with creationists).

  15. That question about why are there still apes if humans evolved from them is about the most annoying question to me because it shows what utter ignorance is out there and the answers are generally equally annoying.

  16. Remember this is the anthro section, not just the archaeology, or the biological, or the human evolution section. Creationism questions themselves, by and large, are not going to be off topic. Simply posting those kinds of questions isn't spam or trolling, no matter your disagreement with those views.

If a particular asker is posting the same thing over and over, that's probably something you can report. I strongly support the reporting of trolls and the like.
