This makes me uncomfortable and feels unappropriate, especially in better restaurants. Your thoughts?

  1. No, it isn't. Applying lipstick falls under the category of "personal grooming" and should be done in private.

In my opinion it is no different than clipping one's nails or brushing one's teeth.

  2. yeah i do and i never have had any complaints

  3. Yeah, you could kind of do it as you talk to someone, like it's a casual thing.  If you're still uncomfortable, excuse yourself to the restroom.

  4. go to the restroom and do it.. duhhh.. dont do it in front of people.. what if you miss and its on your face or smears.. or on your teeth.. then you will look like a fool..

  5. h**l N-O!!! use a washroom or ladies' room or somethin' .

  6. Do what you want. It's better than blowing and or picking your nose. Etiquette is pretty much dead. Who cares?

  7. I agree!  You should excuse yourself and go to the ladies room, to freshen up a bit.

  8. its perfectly fine

  9. No you should excuse yourself to the restroom, then apply the lipstick. Its just rude and inappropriate

  10. no u should go to the BR

  11. Sure why not if you need to freashen up do it where ever man people are to judgemental now days. I would rather go to the batroom mirror to do it tho then you know if you have a smudge or not. lol

  12. The whole point of make up is to make you look better and to 'fool' people. Putting it on infrount of people takes away that and makes it very obvious that you are wearing make up. I would just do it n the BR because then I wouldn't look as if I only cared about my looks.

  13. Not appropriate behavior.

  14. i think it is fine but some people think it is inappropriate and that you should go the powder room lol

  15. LOL I don't really know but I do it all the time..its better than walking around in a nice restaraunt with half your lipstick off. I mean people do it, I do it, quite frankly I dont give a **** what people think about it. I'm just taking care of how I look, no harm in that. It's just lipstick!!

  16. I wouldn't for 2 reasons.  1 it's tacky and 2 you may smear it and not even know.  Best to do this in the restroom in front of a mirror.

  17. you SHOULD feel inappropriate, because it is. it makes you look rude and vain.

  18. Yeah it's not really "ok" to do. It seems rude to the people at your table, also to the people sitting around you. It's like "fixing your hair" at your table or cleaning your teeth!! :)

There's just some things you need to save for the restroom or once you're inside the car, in your own private space :)

  19. I think it is ok.  You shouldnt be uncomfortable.

  20. It's appropriate. And it's s**y.

It's not like blowing your nose at the table - TOTALLY inappropriate! Or plucking your eyebrows, or applying make-up.

There is nothing wrong with a brief touch-up after eating, while holding a small compact mirror. It's part of being a woman. We're not manniquins, you know!

Wow, reading some of these responses makes me wonder about the "uptight scale" of this country.

If you see a woman re-touching her lipstick beside you at the restaurant, IT WILL BE ME.

  21. I don't think that its that big of a deal. But if your uncomfortable with it just go to the restroom real quick and put it on.

  22. it depends on who is doing it and what kind of place it is.

I'd just as soon not see grandma smear some bright red stuff well past the edge of her lips, but if an attractive woman makes a discrete adjustment to the shade of her lips, I think the dining experience has been enhanced.

when in doubt, go to the powder room ladies

  23. I'm not aware of exact cultural rules on this but the safest answer would be no.

Just excuse yourself to the restroom after dinner, Wash your hands and apply lipstick there.

Most restrooms (especially in nice restaurants) have a counter and chair in front of a mirror for that exact purpose.

That way you can apply your makeup in the light with a big mirror and your don't have to feel embarrassed.

    Hope I could help.

  24. NEVER!!!

Thats what the ladies are for!!

  25. It's fine. It shouldn't be offensive but if you're extremely unsure just excuse yourself to the ladies room. =)

  26. It all depends who you're applting it to.

  27. NO

  28. Yeah me too. I don't think do it either. I think it's better to go to the bathroom and do it, it will be less awkward and you can be sure that you put it on right.

  29. hmmm - personally, i wouldn't apply lipstick at the table after dinner b/c it' a little disturbing, no offense or anything.
