Question:

Is it okay to change a kitten's name?

Me and my Mum have just been to see some kittens, and we have chosen a all-over black one. We're taking him home next week. He's male, and his current name is Sabastian. None of my family like that name, we all think it's awful. Would it be okay to change his name? He's only 3mnths old, so would it bother him too much?

  1. yes as long as the kitten is used to her new name....

  2. Yes it is fine. I had found a drop off cat that we were told was a few years old and obviously we didn't know her name so we renamed her. She was fine. I also brought home a 3 month old back in February and we were going to change her name.  As for a name, you may want to wait to see the personality. If you want to go with the traditional "Shadow" or "Midnight" that would be a few choices. Since he's all black. But you may want to wait and see how it acts and everything.

    Have fun with him!

  3. change it the cat is not used to the name so its ok and i like the name rex

  4. When I rescued Sam from the pound, he was 2 years old.  I'm sure someone called him something else at one time but he took to his new name nicely.  Pet your kitty and say his new name over and over while you pet him. Say his name when you feed him too. He'll catch on in no time.

  5. aww so cute, yea I dont think he would care! he's into a lot of more interesting things now @ that early age lol! but good luck.

  6. Yup it's fine

  7. Changing his name is completely fine. Especially at such a young age. He won't care! The names are really for our pleasure anyway. My dog came to us at 1year and we changed his name and he adjusted very well.

  8.      Cats being what they are, it wouldn,t bother him in the least.  Cats don't respond to names anyway.

  9. Sure, he will become accustomed to his new name once you start calling him by it. I adopted a 1 year old cat from a shelter that had been turned out by her owner and gave her a brand new name. She probably doesn't even remember her former name anymore.

  10. Completely fine.

When we adopted one of our guys he was named Casey.  I didn't think it fit him at all so we immediately changed it.  We also found a pregnant stray and gave all her kittens names, which were changed when they were adopted - I certainly wasn't insulted and the kittens didn't care.

But I did name one of the strays outside Sebastian, so I do like that name, but I don't think it would fit for an all black one.

    Congrats on your new pet!
