I usually drink all water and then one diet soda just to treat myself because sugary drinks are bad for you and fattening... Is drinking one bottle of diet soda everyday going to cause anything bad?

  1. Absolutely not.

Short and dirty answer: Drinking aspertame=drinking embalming fluid.  Not healthy.

Here's the long science answer: The most common diet drink sweetener, aspertame, turns into aspartic acid,  and the methyl ester of that group is hydrolyzed into methanol.  Methanol is the poison componant of antifreeze, among other things.  Methanol is oxidized into formaldehyde (commonly used for embalming fluid, though found in other products for preservation as well).  Side-effects of formaldehyde exposure include and are not limited to: brain damage, vision damage, lowered function of internal organs, and has been linked to cancer.

If you want a sugary treat, than have a sugary treat ie real sugar.  Just use moderation.  Or if you are diabetic, or are avoiding sugar for other reasons, there are lots of alternative naturally occuring sweeteners such as stevia, xylatol, agave nectar,  etc.

  2. They say soda in general is not good for you and if you can not to drink it at all.  On the other hand what is good for you?  I think if you consume enough water and you take calcium vitamins or supplements drinking soda shouldnt matter.  I think the only thing about the calcium is the soda strips your bones so be careful with that.

This page says no, but everything in moderation, right?

  4. How big is the bottle? 16 or 20 ounce bottle? It should not be too bad.

It will still have from 60 - 150mg of caffeine depending on the brand and bottle size. The maximum safe level of caffeine in take we can have in a day is 300mg. Even regular amounts of caffeine still dehydrates us and depletes our bodies of calcium and B vitamins

If you are talking 24 ounce size then it is starting to get to be too much. If you are talking about a 2 liter bottle then taht is deffinately too much in a day.

  5. actually artificial sweeteners (which are just real sugar but with chemicals added so the sugar passes through your body...except trace amounts of sugar and chemicals stay IN the body via absorption into the blood stream) will make you crave sugar and store it more than natural sugar will. plus...the chemicals are just not all that healthy. splenda is the latest. this means it has less time on the market, less time doing long-term health studies on..i avoid it and trust the other artificial sweeteners more, but not much more.

to treat yourself, you can make your own healthy soda. use club soda/seltzer and squeeze a fresh orange in (or any fruit you like)

or what i do is take all natural no sugar added juice and mix a little with water or club soda.

not as strong as soda..but healthier. and you won't crave sugar. and it's less than 50 cals.
