Is it okay to dump clumping cat litter outside?

I have 4 large fresh scoop litter containers full of used litter. I would like to dump them in the woods and just reuse the containers, but is it bad for the environment? I know when clumping litter gets wet, it turns to sludge. But it will be in an area where it will not affect my mobility and would never step in it, I'm just concerned with the environment and groundwater.

I know cats go outside all the time and it's fine, but when it is stored in these containers and you open them, the fumes almost make you pass out from the urine.

Thanks!!!

  1. NO becuse if you do that will hurt the envirorment. You have to bag it and throw it in the trash.

  2. When cats go outside, they use different areas each time, so there is not a concentration of urine or f***s in one spot.  You are correct to be concerned.  Just put it into two trash bags, tie it securely, and put it in the trash.

  3. Hm. I'm not sure if it's safe to do THAT, but I have been dumping my clumping cat litter into the compost bin for years and the recycling team always takes it.

So, my suggestion, is that if you have a green bin, dump the cat litter in that.

  4. Don't be so disgusting.  What on earth are you doing collecting this stuff in the first place?  You clean out the litter tray and throw the rubbish away - God that is so foul.
