Is it okay to dye my hair or get my nails done if I'm pregnant?

I'm almost 12 weeks pregnant and i've heard that its okay to dye your hair or get your nails done whenever...and i've also heard that after your first trimester its okay. Please help?!

I waited until 12 weeks to dye my hair. I'd love to get my nails done but i've heard its bad to breath that smell in. Try to use an ammonia free hair dye.

Ive read books about using the dye stuff for your hair and you shouldnt do this while pregnant. And the part about going to get your nails done... I would pass on that one too because of the horrible smell,It might make you really sick cause I know it did for me when i was pregnant with my daughter (I was 8 months). So just wait it out and talk to you doctor about it....

absolutely... but the smell might make you sick.

i went thru beauty school while pregnant... plus colored my hair and got my nails done with all 3 of my kids.. they're fine.

the ONLY thing you need to be warned against is... since your hormones are all wacked out.. it might affect the way your hair color takes.

Personally, hair dying - it's the kind of thing that I would say "why risk it?" It's like they say a glass of wine once in awhile is ok, but why risk it?  Can you really not go 6 months without dying your hair.

As for nails, do you mean just a regular manicure, or are you talking about acrylic nails?  A regular manicure at a WELL-VENTILATED SALON is fine.  I would be cautious about getting acrylics or going to "nail places".  A few months ago, I brought my 6 yr.old son with me when I went to get acrylic nails, and he got a nose bleed from inhaling all the chemicals in there!

Yes and yes. They say not to do your hair more because the hormones could make the dye come out different. I did both while pregnant and my son is fine.

Yes & yes. I have gotten my nails done every week & will continue to do so until the baby is born He is fine. Unless they are doing nails in a cave there is more than enough ventilation in the salon for it to be safe Same goes for the hair There is no conclusive evidence that it has any affect whasoever on the baby

I swear, if half the stuff that people tell you not to do while you were pregnant was anywhere near as dangerous as they say the human population wouldnt have lasted 5 minutes and abortions wouldnt cost hundreds of dollars because to get rid of the baby all you would have to do is eat some tuna with a glass of wine & dye your hair pfft...gimmie a br8k

if you are going to a nail shop to get them done i would advise against it because of all the fumes i don't evan take my 4 year old to nail shops as far as dyeing your hair go ahead only thing is because of the hormone change do not be surprise if it turns out differently

Would you get high whilst pregnant? The fumes you inhale at nail salons are deadly, don't risk the health of your child for vanity.

*Its no better than inhaling glue or paint like a cheap junkie. It IS toxic.

* As for comment below - look at the state of the human population, cancer and disease consumes everything. People are too willing to trust doctors with good intentions but have training influenced heavily by large pharmaceutical companies who don't kid yourself - want money. Which they don't get if you and your babies are healthy.

So don't be fooled if your baby is born with a deformity or some common behavioral disorder, look at the things doctors are telling women are safe which clearly women know in from there gut instinct ARE NOT. Why even ask the question?

i dyed my hair when i was bout 4 weeks pregnant... i didnt know i was pregnant at the time... and ives dyed my hair twice since then.. so i guess its up to you... im now 24 weeks along with a healthy baby...  i not really sure bout the nails but im sure they are ok too.
