I am very hungry, and the only bacon in the house said to use it by 28 July. I have a strong stomach. Is it still okay to eat?

Also, there is another pack which is 2 weeks past the date.

They both look alright. Are they okay?

  4. If you want to be sick, eat them!  lol

  5. We pay far too much attention to sell-by and use-by dates in this country - no wonder we throw away so much good food.  In the "olden days" - and not that long ago - about 30 years ago??  We didn't have packages telling us what to do with our food - we went to the butcher and it came wrapped in paper and it was up to us to figure out what to do with it and how to keep it.  We seem to have lost the ability to rely on our senses when it comes to food, instead trusting the supermarkets.  Do you know the reason why they put the use by date on there even though the food is still good?  It's in case you eat it, get ill and sue them.  That's it - not for your info but for their protection.

For bacon - it's usually cured / smoked anyway so will last a long long time as long as it's covered.  Once it's opened, the air will oxidise it and it will become solid or darker in colour.  If it's darker or hard, don't eat it.  Smell it - does it smell bad?  If so, don't eat it.  If it smells of nothing or just of bacon and is still soft to touch and not falling apart it will be fine.  The way you cook bacon also means that any germs fry off in the heat of the oil in the pan.

I'd be more careful with chicken although you can still go a few days over the use by date if you know what you're looking for.  If it starts to smell like eggs then throw it.  Use your nose, your brain will tell you if something is no longer good to eat - use your eyes - if it looks wrong, it probably is.  Trust your senses.

  6. It depends on whether it was frozen or not. If you thawed it right before you used it, then yes it is fine. but if it was in the fridge for three days and then you used it... iffffy.

  7. Possibly, just make sure you check it still looks & smells ok and then don't try to eat it raw!!

    Good luck!

  8. Do Not Eat them!! They could actually kill you. go to sleep

  9. if they look ok and smell ok they should be ok

best before dates are just supermarkets covering all the bases ie if you eat something after the date you cant sue them

  10. My mother always tells me as long as it's frozen you can eat it any time....but she's crazy lol.

  16. Yes it's perfectly fine to eat bacon as long as you eat it no longer than it's 2 weeks past best before date as the meat is still fresh and chewy :)
