Question:

Is it okay to give my 4 month old water?

We go to the park for 30 minutes and I just hang out in the shade with the baby while my 4 year old plays. It was pretty hot today so when we got home my 4 month old was still between feedings so I gave her some cool water in a bottle. She drank it right up and did fine after wards. So is this something I should be doing when we spend some time outside?

  1. Yes its fine, i been giving my 4 month old water in between feeds since he was 1-2 months old.

If its not cooled boiled water though the baby might get a bit sick.

  2. A sip is OK but milk will quench her thirst and nourish her. If you're breastfeeding, it's find to feed more frequently in the hot weather. From what I've read, they don't need water until they start foods.

  3. a little bit is ok you don't want her to get so full of water she doesn't feed. and you do not  want to overhydrate her with to much she can have  a little keep a few ice cubes in a baggie with a small towel you can dab that on the back of her neck to cool her down or let her "chew" on the wet towel a bit it will be good fo teething and she'll get a little bit of water

  4. I was always told by my pediatrician not to give too much water because it can cause problems with the blood, like thinning it out or something, hard to remember three years later. But I know you are supposed to be very carefull how much water they swallow in th tub and pool, and we were'nt supposed to give water unless he was dehydrated. I would call your pediatrician, don't be shy, they expect to hear from you every week the first year!

  5. It's fine, but not necessary if she's feeding regularly.  I would avoid giving her anything too cold.

  6. my lil girl is a piggy too! on hot days i give her 2 oz. of water! no more though!

  7. you shouldnt be giving your baby water until at least 6 months or when solids are introduced, b/c water is considered an empty calorie and can fill them up with no nutritional value, which may make them not want to eat later on

  8. You should not give her water.
