Is it okay to have ADHD and Drive?

I am 16 years old and i have been driving for almost a year. I learned how to drive on my ADHD medication and i am trying to pull away from it. I am wondering if I will be okay if i drive without my medication.

  1. Sure, it's not like you have seizures. Just be responsible - avoid those ADD temptations like texting and driving.


  2. Why would you discontinue your meds? ADHD does not go away. So, yes, you should not drive if you have ADHD and are not controlled.

  3. You still need your medication. Have you even got a licence to drive, at your age and in your condition civilised countries would not let you behind the wheel EVER!

    You may think you are driving ok, but that is because the medications are not working.

  4. I got into a car once with someone who is ADHD and not on meds...the most frightening ride of my life.  You will probably not notice a real difference, but those around you will.  Ask your friends to be very honest in the difference in your driving, and listen to them.

  5. If you go off your meds you will have a tendency to be more distracted. Distracted driving can be as much as a safety hazard as drunk driving.
