I'd like to show my little causin how it feels like to drive with the top down, but I think I heard from somewhere that I may get a ticket for doing so.

  1. it was ok in the channel islands with my son last year. he loved it. the island has a 30mph limit.

the roof on most convertibles is not part of the structure of the car, else it would be a mess when the roof is down.

it is much windier and noisier in the back. make sure they have a proper seat/booster, a good sweater, tight fitting hat and shades on.

and be prepared for the "its toooooooo windy now"

    and don't get sunburn.

    but they will enjoy it!

  2. yeah it is just as safe as a regular car..

You ride in your car with the sun roof open then why would it be any diffrent if the hole roof it off??

MAKE SURE YOUR KIDS ARE BUCKLED IN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. just has safe with the top up as it is with it down dont you think....not a bunch of differents

  4. Depends on what kind of convertible and how old the child is.

If the child is in the backseat, it's reasonably safe.

If it's a two seat convertible (Miata, Solstice, 300Z, etc), then I do not recommend the child sitting up front with you.

Also, never put a rear facing child seat in the front.  The airbag will break the child's neck.

  5. Obey your state laws concerning child safety/booster seats.  Most states require booster seats for kids under 40 lbs and car seats for babies.  Most states also require that kids ride in the back seat using seat belts because of the danger to kids from front seat airbags.

  6. its defenitely not the safest way to transport your child. anything can happen something can fly up from the road and hit them they can get something in there eye, or god forbid someone hit you and the car rolls there is nothing at all to protect them. i never drive my jeep wrangler with the top down with my daughter in it.

  7. Yes it is legal but not safe with the top down, I would not do it..

  8. Should be no problem as long as their are no hailstorms nor meteor showers.

  9. make sure they are wearing sun glasses,, no nothing flys in there eyes
