  1. OMG its not ok!!

i know this may sound real stupid coming from a high school

    student

but in my Early childhood studies class

we watched a video on FAS

    Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

yes even a little bit of alcohol can make serious damage

like ur kid may have weird facial features or it can be hyper active like it doesn't burn energy or like it wont be able to process information quick so in the long run they will be alot slower at school

    they also cant concentrate ETC..

u should have seen the movie it was soo sad!!!

im definatly not ddrinkingwhen i have kids!!!

    please just consider thisss

i swear its soo sad that things like this happen

even just withh a extremly small ammount

its up to you but for the babys sake dont DRINK!!!

  2. How Much Alcohol Is Too Much?

It's clear that abusing alcohol during pregnancy is dangerous, but what about the occasional drink? How much alcohol constitutes too much during pregnancy?

No evidence exists that can determine exactly how much alcohol ingestion will produce birth defects. Individual women process alcohol differently. Other factors vary the results, too, such as the age of the mother, the timing and regularity of the alcohol ingestion, and whether the mother has eaten any food while drinking.

Although full-blown FAS is the result of chronic alcohol use during pregnancy, FAE and ARND may occur with only occasional or binge drinking.

Because alcohol easily passes the placental barrier and the fetus is less equipped to eliminate alcohol than its mother, the fetus tends to receive a high concentration of alcohol, which lingers longer than it would in the mother's system.

Mothers who drink during the first trimester of pregnancy have kids with the most severe problems because that is when the brain is developing. The connections in the baby's brain don't get made properly when alcohol is present. Of course, in the early months, many women don't even know they're pregnant.

It's important for women who are thinking about becoming pregnant to adopt healthy behaviors before they get pregnant.

Women who abstain from alcohol in early pregnancy may feel comfortable drinking in the final months. But some of the most complex developmental stages in the brain occur in the second and third trimesters, a time when the nervous system can be greatly affected by alcohol. Even moderate alcohol intake, and especially periodic binge drinking, can seriously damage a developing nervous system.

  3. If you have a good head on your shoulders and understand that drinking to much to often will harm the baby and don't over do it, then have a glass of wine. I think people don't remember that your body and the umbilical cord filter out things in everything we eat. I think do what makes you comfortable. I have had a few glasses of wine while pregnant and my baby is fine. I can't stand people who think it is selfish if they think that I would do anything that I thought would harm my child they are just ignorant. There is proof that a glass of wine here and there won't harm the baby so don't listen to what anyone tells you just do what you think is best!!

  4. Depends on geography. Women in Italy drink red wine while pregnant. I think American doctors are too fearful of law suits to tell you "occasional" consumption isn't a big deal because there's always the moron who thinks occasional means once an hour. Then the doctor is held liable for the moron's interpretation. It's just easier to say, "don't do it."

  5. Depends who you ask.

There is no evidnece of harm to baby from very light drinking -- a drink or two a week or less.

Some doctors say that because there is no proof that it's perfectly safe (you can't PROVE something like that....) it's best to abstain completely.

    Your choice really.

  6. I would ask your doctor to be sure, but I have read that having a glass of red wine a day is just fine throughtout your pregnancy.

  7. I think that's fine as long as it's not in your first trimester. All of my family and friends drank occasionally when they were pregnant...some of the older one's even drank all throughout their pregnancy and had perfectly healthy children. (Not saying to do that - but once a week should be fine), and obviously no liquor.

  8. Most doctors will say that an occasional glass of wine on a special occassion, such as at a wedding or some other rare event is OK, but I don't know if weekly counts as just "occasional".  Talk to your own doctor and get her feelings on the issue.  Personally I wouldn't do it, but it is your baby, not mine, so you need to decide what is right for him or her.

  9. I have been told not to have anything in the first tri-mester. In the second and third you can even have one drink a day and it is not suppose to effect the pregnancy although it is not recommended, so one glass of wine a week should be just fine without any worries.

  10. Depends who you ask.

Some people will say fine, go ahead.  Some will say don't do it.

But think of it this way, it's only 40 weeks out of your 80-odd years of life, so abstaining shouldn't be too hard if that's what you decide.

You're sharing your body with your baby.  Despite what people say about the placenta "filtering out" the bad stuff between mother and baby, alcohol is something that does pass through, and freely.  Alcohol will also enter the amniotic fluid.

Would you share a glass of wine with a newborn baby?

  11. It depends on who you ask, but I wouldn't and didn't drink at all while pregnant.  It just wasn't that important to me to take the risk to my child.

  12. The Surgeon Generals warning about drinking while pregnant is mainly aimed at people who wouldn't know when to stop.  These are the people who drink excessively.  Doctors routinely recommend you have nothing.

I had my youngest child in Germany and my midwife recommended I have a glass of wine every night.  She said that drinking excessively will harm the baby (low birth weight, fetal alcohol syndrome, etc), but a glass of wine with dinner is fine.  The Europeans don't insist that women stop drinking completely, just that you drink in moderation.

I feel like one drink with dinner occasionally is fine, just don't start doing shots!  Here in the States you'll be looked at strangely if you do it in public and you'll probably hear lots of comments, but if you have a glass at dinner, at home, you will most likely be fine.

  13. It does really depend on who you ask! The research shows that an occassional glass of RED wine is not going to hurt the fetus in anyway. There has been NO research that PROVES otherwise. There are alot of positive aspects to drinking a glass of RED wine such as the antioxidents you obtain from it. I drank the occassional glass with my first baby and she is just fine. I will more likely than not drink the occassional glass with my current pregnancy as I enjoy red wine and have no fear of it hurting my baby. People will send you all kinds of evil wishes and terrible doings because you might have that occasional drink! Dont listen to them...they are ignorant! Obviously there is a HUGE difference between a glass and a bottle. So if you want to enjoy that glass once in awhile go for it - look at Europeans there is no stigma attached with drinking wine during pregnancy and whether we agree with their politics we have to agree that they are not each born with three arms and the cyclops eye!! LOL

  14. I think it's okay to have a little bit of wine here and there... all in moderation.  But I don't know if I would do it once a week... have you talked to your doctor?

  15. I'm 19 weeks pregnant. My sister in law had wine during her pregnancy and drank about a liter of water with a glass. I on the other hand are not drinking any. I love wine and grave it so much. I am so tired of fruit juices, water etc. Went to the bottle store and bought myself alcohol free Becks. It tastes exactly like beer. I mix it with Lemonade to make my own alcohol free beer shandy's. I drink this every time we go out or have socials. I also know Bavaria makes beer with 0% alcohol. I will rather wait another while untill baby is born. I'm just to scared to take the risk. Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy.

  16. I wouldn't just to be sure. But if u must i suggest waiting until 3rd trimester. The first and second is when the vital organs, facial features and things like that are developing the third is growth and would be the most safe : ) good luck with baby

  17. You shouldn't drink at all when you are pregnant. It amazes me how some women can't put aside what they want for 9 months...they'd rather potentially harm their baby then do what's right. It's not worth the risk, think about your baby!

  18. some docs say its okay.... I guess anything is in moderation.....

but I know I'm not comfortable drinking anything during my pregnancy.

Everyone is different, I've actually heard of docs  telling women to have a glass here and there to help with nerves and high blood pressure.

Talk to your doctor before you do/
