Question:

Is it okay to have only 1 AP course my senior year of high school?

I am really behind in the AP gov summer homework, so I am thinking of dropping that class. If i do drop it, I will have 5 classes (1 AP and 4 normal)

Is that okay for colleges to see? Will most colleges or UCs be disappointed at my class schedule because it is not challenging enough?

  1. Its okay, I mean there are a LOT of students who don't take ANY AP classes during high school, though I've taken as many as possible. :P

Oh and if its at all possible for you to finish the summer assignment, please do. I put off my summer assignments too, and I have to read 3 books and make a comment on every page (for AP lit), read 5 huge chapters in my AP biology textbook, answer questions for them, and complete a bunch of online activities...and I have to do this all by monday. Haha the only reason I'm online now is i'm taking a 30 minute break.

My point being, even though it sucks after you've procrastinated, don't give up. Just do it and get it over with, once the year starts you won't have to worry about that summer assignment anymore, you can start fresh and do things on time.

But really, if you have any time left at all, take AP government. I am. :)

  2. Will it affect you, probably. How much depends on where you want to go and what your previous academic record is.

  3. You should take the best classes reasonable for you to take. Selectivity of the college will be the determining factor in how much it matters. The more select the college, the more AP classes you must have. You can get in a strong state school IN YOUR STATE without many as long as you have a decent ACT/SAT score.

  4. Depends on the school you're applying for. Realistically, that course load on a Harvard application is going to be a little disappointing.

But most schools understand that there are more important things than AP courses. They want to see you do EXCELLENTLY.... they want to see it in AP classes but they will still be impressed if you do really well in normal courses. AND they take into account how many AP courses are offered at your school. Mine offers like 15-20some so its understandable that I left my class having taken 10-12 AP classes and exams.

Schools understand that AP classes aren't the best thing in the world and normal classes are pretty hard to ace too so if you can ace those courses, its still pretty impressive. AP courses only give you a slight edge and a bunch of credits to start out with in college. Which is reallyyyyy nice. Trust me, its nice.

  5. " Will most colleges or UCs be disappointed at my class schedule because it is not challenging enough?" That depends upon the school and your major./
