  1. Yeah, it's actually a way to establish the time era in which the story takes place.  There's actually a book called King Dork that I recently read that makes a lot reference to the book Catcher in the Rye and the main character hates it.

    So the answer is yes.

  2. Yes,it's perfectly fine

  3. Yeah, C.S.Lewis mention The War of The Worlds a couple of times in Out of the Silent Planet. He put a little note at the beginning to explain, though.

  4. If you aren't making money off of it or publishing then you are fine. It is completely legal as long as you do not post it online or publish it. If you want to post it online then you MUST give credit to the books and authors or movie and director.

  5. Well, I know that there's another question at there that I read a while back that had the same basic question.  From what the winning answer said, you can reference to the movies/books as long as it doesn't say anything negative against the movies/books.

And if it's written for fun, then as long as you aren't making money off of it then it should be just fine.  If it's written to sell, then a good agent and a good publisher would know what can stay and what should be edited out.

  6. Yes it should be okay. There's so many books and movies out there that make references to other ones. Besides, if you did publish it, you could always ask the publisher if the references you make are okay, or they should tell you anyway.

As long as you don't say anything offensive about another text or person in there, then you should be completely fine to include it.
