  1. Your bird craves attention. Out of the cage is good for them. Just be sure to provide lots of toys for it.

And be sure you take safety precautions like putting the lid down on the toilet, covering the opening to the garbage disposal and keeping the doors closed.

Personally, I don't believe in clipping their wings. They need to fly to get exercise.

  2. If you want to take the chance of it getting loose and maming and killing animals and small children.

  3. NO, ARE YOU INSANE??!?!?!?!?

  4. While most parakeets can fly, and it's not a good thing to let them out of their cages because of this, it's also an 'easy fix' but one you should have done while you watch to see what is done and how it 'works' ... get the bird's wings clipped.  Many people incorrectly clip the largest feathers on the wing, thinking they are the ones that keep the bird in the air, but it's the smaller feathers toward the body that do that ... go to any store that sells birds, and if they won't clip your bird's wings, ask if you may observe as they clip other birds ... it's very easy to do, and once you know how you should clip your bird's wings once every three months.  The bird can't fly, then, so you will also need to be sure that if the bird falls it is safe from attack by cats, dogs, and even the feet of people.  DO NOT cup a parakeet or any bird in your hand, because they get frightened and even aparakeet can bite HARD when it's scared.  So ... find out how to clip the wings, clip them, and then just let your bird stand on your finger ... it will be a happy bird, and if you let it ride on your shoulder, you'll have a good companion as you go through your day.

  5. if it bonds to you and u are confident it wont fly away

  6. yes. Just hold it indoors with all the windows shut

if it flys off then just wait, it will go back in its cage to eat sooner or later

  7. Probably.  My cousin had a bird or something like a parakeet and she'd hold it outside of its cage all the time-just make sure you're inside your house.

  8. it will but it will come back. my friend has one and lets it out all the time. he will get better and better. especially if he likes you a lot!!

  9. well my grandma does it every day they really seem 2 like her so I think the more u play the better they will be. also don't do this if u don't know how but I have heard of people clipping the wings or maybe the tail and it makes it so they really cant fly. I don't no if thats any more mean than keeping them in a cage.  I don't remember if my grandma cuts hers or not but I know they dont fly away

  10. Yes.  Just train it.  Make sure it's wings are clipped.  I had parakeets before and they were a lot of fun.  I used to hold them on my finger & pet them.  Make sure to buy your parakeet a play pen & plenty of toys.  They also enjoy those bird baths that look like bath tubs with mirrors.

                                                                               Enjoy!

  11. The parakeet or the cage?

  12. Clip its wing feathers then it wont fly off.

  13. That all depends on the bird and where the cage is located. If you got your bird at PetSmart or something like that then you might find it difficult to get him/her to stand on your hand at all much less stay on your hand outside the cage. If you got it from a breeder, you've had the bird since it was a baby OR it's been handled since it was a baby, and the cage is INSIDE then you shouldn't have any problems.

In any case if you think the bird will be willing to sit on your hand or in your hands then here is my advice for holding him/her out of his/her cage.

    1. Make sure the cage is indoors, if the bird flies off and it's inside it's ability to escape is rather limited, while outdoors it could easily fly off, get lost, and be unable to find its way home again, I found a parakeet outdoors once and he (or she, we named him Pete but I really don't know his gender) became my first pet, I never held him, but then again we found him rather than getting him from a breeder who'd handled him since birth, so keep the bird inside ESPECIALLY while you're unsure if it will fly off.

    2. Turn off the celling fan and anything else that can hurt the bird if it gets away from you.

    3. Take the bird somewhere enclosed where it can't get hurt easily like a bath room, put the toilet seat down, and play with your bird.

I can't tell you how the bird will react to being held as that it's background will determine that, but teach it to step up on your hand and then work your way up from there, but be warned, they can bite!

    Enjoy your pet!

Also it's safer for the bird to have its wings clipped, get someone who knows what there doing to do it though, don't try yourself.
